Every session is individualized around your child’s goals and interests. We may explore a trail, investigate something your child notices, build with natural materials, tackle a problem together, or pause for more focused practice. Your child’s speech and language goals are intentionally woven into these experiences, creating meaningful opportunities to communicate throughout the session.
You don’t have to decide on your own! We’ll consider your child’s communication goals, interests, learning needs, and safety to determine which setting may be the best fit. Some children thrive with the movement and exploration that nature offers, while others benefit from the familiarity and structure of their home environment.
Children who frequently elope (run away) or demonstrate physical behaviours towards self or others (e.g. hitting, throwing objects at others) are not the right fit for nature-based therapy due to safety concerns.
Generally, yes! Nature-based sessions can continue in light rain when children are dressed appropriately for the weather. We may adapt our activities as needed.
Sessions will be rescheduled when weather or environmental conditions make being outdoors unsafe.
Nature-based sessions take place at Surrey Bend Regional Park. Home-based sessions are available in Coquitlam and Surrey, depending on location and availability.
A travel fee may apply to home-based appointments depending on location.
For nature-based sessions, a caregiver is required to remain for children ages 6 and under. For older children, caregiver involvement will depend on the child’s independence, safety needs, and therapy goals.
Caregivers may also be encouraged to participate when their involvement supports therapy and helps carry communication strategies into everyday life.
We work with children and youths ages 3–19 across a range of speech, language, communication, and literacy needs.
Many extended health plans provide coverage for services delivered by a registered Speech-Language Pathologist. We do not direct bill extended health insurance, but we provide receipts that families can submit to their insurance provider for reimbursement. We recommend checking with your provider to confirm your individual coverage.
For eligible families, direct billing is available through the Autism Funding Unit (AFU) and At Home Program (AHP).
That’s okay! Our complimentary discovery call is an opportunity to share your concerns, ask questions, and learn more about our services. We can help you determine whether an assessment or another next step would be appropriate.
